THE DISPLACED SOUL - A
GHOST
When the spirit of someone who has died is caught in the
dimension closest to Earth, which is between the astral plane of
the Earth and the higher plane of the spirit world, a ghost is
created. This happens when an entity chooses not to accept that
their physical body is dead and refuses to return to the spirit
world. These souls have the same mind set as they had on earth
and are likely to be confused or distressed over what has
happened. Souls have free will that is not limited to our
existence on Earth. Ghosts come into being in several ways:
through a violent or sudden death, choosing to remain within the
earth plane after physical death due to unfinished business on
earth, a strong belief in hell or damnation causing fear of what
lies ahead, or not believing in the afterlife making it
difficult to realize what has happened.
These souls are not fully aware of what happened to them and
will return to their old surroundings. According to Michael
Newton, PhD, in Journey of Souls, a ghost is a troubled
spirit who is quite often attached to a particular geographic
location, rather than with the person they are disrupting. Once
in a while, a ghost roams a house from top to bottom, or might
even go as far as the yard or a short distance away, but
overall, they are afraid to leave familiar surroundings. They
will feel that whoever is living there is the intruder, and will
try to make them leave. In some cases they seem content to
co-exist with the people living in the home, perhaps just
watching over a place to make sure the new occupants respect and
take care of it the way they did.
Ghosts are a form of energy, just as humans are, but vibrate at
a higher frequency. They are in the plane closest in vibration
rate to us, therefore they are the easiest type of spirit to
contact. Ghosts seem to be able to tap into energy sources, and
will try to communicate with the living by causing a temperature
change in one part of a room, manipulating electrical impulses
to cause changes in lights, radios, TVs, or phones; rapping,
knocking or footsteps; electronic voice phenomena; scents such
as a flower or cigarette or cigar smoke; or producing a shadow
or apparition. The fewer physical disturbances there are, the
easier it is for them to communicate across the astral plane.
That is why communication is more common at night when
disturbances are at a minimum.
James Van Praagh in his book Ghosts Among Us explains
that ghosts are lost souls who need help to move out of the
earthly realm and into the higher plane. This help can come from
the higher plane and/or from us here on earth. Van Praagh tells
of the ghost of a young British sailor from World War II who was
part of a naval blockade attempting to intercept German U-boats.
His ship had been hit, and he was in the sea holding onto a
rock. He thought that if he let go of the rock he would drown.
The young man was so obsessed by his situation that, with his
whole heart and soul, he believed that as long he was holding on
to that rock he would not die. He was in such a highly charged
emotional state that he could not comprehend anything outside of
his own predicament. When the people in the group contacting him
impressed upon him that he was already dead, he found it hard to
believe. The group instructed the sailor to think of his
deceased mother, and she showed up. With his mother’s help he
realized the truth and was ready to move on.
Even in a house with several people living in it, ghosts will
not “see” anything beyond their own narrow focus and it can take
years or centuries before someone from either side will finally
be able to get through to help them cross over into the higher
plane. Ghosts do not fade away over time; they are present for
all eternity until through some outside source they become aware
of their situation and willingly go to the light which takes
them to the other side.
